Down Syndrome Connections - International Down Syndrome Coalition

I meant to write this post a few months ago, but time slipped by so quickly.

The International Down Syndrome Coalition's blog post today was extra motivation for me today. :)

This past summer, I submitted this photo of Cody to the IDSC for their photo campaign.

I submitted the photo because I appreciated their campaign and the message that came out of them. So many times I looked at a photo and the message on it and thought "I totally feel that way" or "I'm not the only one".

What started as merely submitting a photo turned into something I never expected.

My submission led to a phone call with the amazing founder of the IDSC, Diane. In that one phone call, I felt a connection to her, the IDSC and the IDSC's mission. By the end of the phone call, I was part of the IDSC as a photo editor. It was an opportunity to showcase awesome individuals with Down syndrome while sharing a family's message about what Down syndrome  means for them.  All while helping to advocate for Down syndrome and show to others just how "all life is precious".

When I was pregnant and found out Cody's diagnosis, I wish the IDSC was around. When I first started googling "Down Syndrome" I was greeted by stories of regret and hardships and suggestions for termination. It painted a bleak picture. I wish the IDSC was one of the first sites that popped up and that I had known about their Facebook Connections page where other families share their lives - the good, the bad, the phenomenal!

It's been a few months now that I have been volunteering with the IDSC. I am now the Director of Social Media. :) I am thankful for everyone I have met through the IDSC - Diane and Linda who put their hearts into every aspect of the IDSC, board members who have such a contagious passion about advocating for our children and others with Down syndrome, the volunteers that add their magic touches to photos to share family's stories, and the families that I get to communicate with to share their story through their own photos.

Today, the IDSC introduced the board members on their website and I want you to get to know these awesome ladies behind this equally awesome organization! http://www.theidsc.org/2012/12/the-idsc-meet-board.html
