Italy Diary–Part Two

I know…I’m a tease. I post day one of Italy and don’t get around to day 2 for a week.

Before heading out for some sight seeing, we went to the rooftop of our hotel and took a picture of ourselves with the mountain behind us.

It was blissful waking up to this view every morning!!!! (Life was rough for me while there, I know.)

We stayed at this cute, mom and pop hotel in Aviano. It was the kind of hotel where you drop your key (YES, a REAL key) off at the front desk whenever you leave. The staff was nice and friendly and made us practice our Italian whenever they saw us! :)

The first picture for the car that I posted didn’t do it justice to show you just how small it was. We couldn’t even fit our luggage in the back and had to cram them into the back seats. I loved driving around in this car because it felt like a toy. A 90 mph driving toy.

Right outside our hotel was a holly bush. I have never seen one in real life so we had to take a picture of it!

Our first day of sight seeing brought us to Pordenone…

The first thing that wowed us were these amazing buildings…

Each town had a clock tower in its center. They were all impressive! It was also a great way to find my way back once I got lost in  city. It served its purpose. Smile

We couldn’t help but laugh at how here in America we purposely create the “brick behind the paint” look while in Italy they probably were really trying to hid the brick.

These adorned the Church.

One of the first things we noticed while walking around the town was the lack of sidewalks.

First, I thought all the cobble stone roads were the sidewalks, BUT it turned out to be the actual street!

After a few days of driving, I finally was not scared to drive down these narrow streets. It was actually fun trying to not hit people or other cars. heehee

This corner building was pretty cool to look at.

Because it was noon, all the stores and restaurants were closing down. Actually, since it was Sunday, there were NO stores open!

We ran into a restaurant before they closed to grab a bite for breakfast/lunch.

This was my husband’s breakfast. A fruit filled, flaky croissant with a glass of wine.

This was my breakfast. It had fruit so it qualified for a full breakfast. Smile It was wine with juice, a spritzer and orange slices. It was DELICIOUS!!!!

This cute little bike adorned the front of a café/confectionary shop. We managed to hop in right before they closed to grab a cup of latte macchiato. I would have taken a picture of it if she hadn’t rushed us out. Funny story – she said “we close at 1” as she was wiping everything down and covering the coffee machine. I looked at my watch and it was 12. I still got my macchiato so I was happy.
