I Heart Faces - Water

When I saw that the I Heart Faces’ weekly photo challenge this week was about water, I immediately thought of this picture.

I call it my “I Hope You Dance” picture because it makes me think of the lyrics

“I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance”

This song always reminds me of Cody’s heart surgery and hospital stay (along with the song “My Wish”) and how strong a person I want him to be in life (both my boys for that matter).   Hmmm…maybe this is why Cody loves to dance? Because I would whisper this song to him while he was in the hospital and he took it literally? :)

I Heart Faces Challenge –Shadows

This week’s theme is Shadows at I Heart Faces. I was giddy when I saw this theme because just last week, the boys and I were outside in the backyard and I was taking pictures of Cody’s shadow (it is one of his best friends after all!).

Background to the shot – Cody had his first T-Ball game coming up and I wanted to practice with him. As I was setting up the tee, he disappeared. I found him standing on the deck playing the bat like it was a trumpet!

If there are two things my boy loves the most right now,  it is 1) music and 2) his shadow.

This picture defines who he is so well.

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge–Red

This week’s I Heart Faces challenge is Red.

This week’s challenge is in support of Go Red For Women.

Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

Go Red For Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives.

This is my first entry into one of their challenges and this picture of Cody just felt very appropriate.

2) As a baby born with a heart defect (that was corrected at 5 months) the boy has nothing but heart to share! And today, he shares his heart with you….

(By the title alone, you can tell I am a child of the 80’s, huh? heehee)

Bubbles are the Way to a Kid’s Heart…

One thing I have learned so far in my photography business is that bubbles are the way to a kid’s heart. =)

Bubbles have a way of persuading children (those between the ages of 2 and 4) that I am super cool!!!

Meet Evan. He is every bit of 2. Just like my own 2 year old, the word of choice for the moment seems to be “no”.  I love this age. They are not sure of what else to say so they stick with what they know – no or yes. =) Bubbles were an automatic YES!

He has such sweet eyes. Don’t they make you melt?

Why do boys get the long lashes? Evan had thick lashes to envy.

 

I love the determination he had when blowing his bubbles.

This Tutu’s for You

I was so excited to use my new tutu’s on this little cutie! =)

I had posted the request for a little girl for a “tutu” session and was excited to be contacted by this little cutie’s mom.

The session turned into a “Cute Kid Contest” session as well.

We started with the tutu and let her work into her comfort zone (giraffe friend included). =) She was great and did not mind wearing the tutu at all!!

Before the session, I had a vision for what I wanted. Without any guidance, she helped me create what I had envisioned.

These are the 2 I saw in my head…

…and I was able to capture exactly what I had hoped for. Thank you, baby Sophia, for being a willing (and absolutely ADORABLE!!)participant in my creativity.

Once the portraits in the tutu were captured, we moved on to the Cute Kid Contest portion of the session.

This portrait is my favorite. She just has the SWEETEST face!!!

Princesses Can Have Fun Too!

Meet Marella! This is my DJ’s best friend at school. =)

She is such a girly girl and I LOVE it! Her favorite color isn’t pink, though, but I don’t hold it against her. =)

We went to the Vacaville Library and I was amazed at the beautiful scenery there!  They had a bridge, benches, greenery, trees, arches, and everything a photographer could dream about for an outdoor session.

Her natural smile just makes me smile, too!!!

 

And what does a princess do when she has a nice flowy (spell check is telling me this isn’t a word – it is now LOL) dress and wind blowing her hair? YOU SPIN!

Double J

I was tagged team by the Double J team! =)

Since Jack and Jessica were at the park together for their individual portrait sessions, we also took portraits of them together.

You can tell by their dynamics that they are good friends. They were actually more like brother and sister. =)

Meet Jack

I can honestly say that I have not met a 6 year old like Jack before. He is adorable, full of life, and wise beyond his years! I can picture myself chatting with Jack over a game of chess while sipping a fancy cappuccino and discussing world events or Bakugan. =)

This adorable little man was picture perfect. I loved that we would be in the middle of a conversation, but as soon as he looked at the camera, his “model face” was there. Then as soon as the shutter would click, he was back into conversation as if the camera was merely a mild distraction from our conversation. He was so natural in front of the camera that it was as if the camera was not even there. =)

 

This was the first time I had met Jack. His personality just shined. This portrait is one that characterized the conversation we were having at the time. I was trying to discuss Pokemons, but he preferred Bakugans. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Bakugans. 

 

This portrait makes my teeth hurt. He just looks so sweet!!!

A Princess at the Park

Yesterday was a gorgeous day for a park portrait session! My allergies even behaved! YEAH!

You met Jack in the last post, now meet Jessica. Jessica and Jack’s families are friends and we did a combo portrait session at the park.

Jessica was sporting her new hairstyle and as lady like as could be! =) Right down to her coordinated necklace - that’s my kind of girl!

Unlike Jack, Jessica was a bit shy at first, but slowly warmed up to the camera. In no time, she was a natural.

 

This is one of my favorite portraits from the day. Her expression just draws you in. What is she thinking about? What is on the other side of the tree (you’ll find out in the next post)?

And this is my favorite portrait! I know, it doesn’t show her adorable face =), but the artist in me just loves the way her hair is blowing and just, well, the artistic aspect of it. =)
