Rush Ranch Rocks

A wonderful photographer friend introduced me to Rush Ranch. Before GNO last week, Teri and I headed out there to check it out and see what was out there.

Fortunately for us, nobody else was there and we had the freedom to roam around and soak in (and photograph) the scenery.

At the parking lot, we were greeted by these little cuties. I tried to get the one in front to move to better light, but he wasn’t listening to me. =)

1

Isn’t this one a beauty? I wish my hair was that color!!

I was shooting into the sun for the next two and although it is a no-no, I love the way they turned out. Very dreamy.

A Train Ride Through the Beautiful Countryside

Last week, the kids, Teri and I went to the Western Railway Museum to go for a train ride to look at the beautiful wild flowers that Solano County has to offer. The view was gorgeous!

The train ride was a lot of fun as well. DJ and Cody had a great time and the rocking motion of the train rocked Cody to sleep during the 2nd half of the ride. =)

I loved the interior of the train. It was very vintage.

4

Although the beginning of the week was FREEZING and unbelievably windy, the day was on our side and we had a gorgeous sky. It was the perfect opportunity to try out my new polarized filter. I love the blue of the sky that it captured.

5

The purple wildflowers (their name escapes me) makes such a beautiful scenery. I always see it on the side of the freeway and it is just beautiful.

6

These things have always made me curious. I first saw them during Mission Impossible when Tom Cruise was flying past them. I don’t know if it was this specific windmills, but something about them just intrigues me.

The railway museum happened to be right next to the windmill farm so we were able to get a close up view of them. They are HUGE!

7

I love the blue sky against this leafless tree.

8

After the train ride, we wandered around the museum. They had non-running trains that you can run around in. DJ had a great time on the empty trains while Cody continued his nap.

1

The museum had a large picnic area that was peacefully surrounded by beautiful flowers, lots of trees and numerous relaxation spots. I could have stayed there for hours.

Tall, Beautiful and Photogenic

I have been dabbling with the idea of offering Senior Portraits and because majority of the people I have photographed thus far have been under the age of 10, I invited my Goddaughter to meet me for a session of modeling.

We went to one of my new hotspots. They have a great variety of scenery and it is not a widely used area – perfect for portrait sessions!!!

Meet my beautiful Goddaughter, Shay! I think I may have been more nervous than her for the session! She was a great model, though, and we got into a flow right away.

I wish my legs were as long as hers. Then I would be…well, taller! =)

4

One thing I noticed that was the main difference between younger aged children and teenagers is that teenagers do great with poses. With younger children, I like to observe and capture candid expressions because they aren’t as receptive to poses that require them to stay still for a period of time. I think that is why I was apprehensive about offering senior portraits. I wasn’t sure if I directing posing was something I could do since I was used to being an observer. =)

I proved myself wrong and with the help of Shay, we had a blast experimenting with poses.

She nearly fell off a rock on this one when I kept asking her to lean back, but isn’t the end result beautiful! =)

1

This is one of my favorite images from the day. She must think her Godmother is hilarious, right? =)

2

And I think this is  my FAVORITE portrait from the day….

3

Stay tuned for the announcement of my Senior Portrait packages. I will also be looking for Senior Representatives to receive discounts on all packages.

She’s Got Spunk!

Meet Katie! This little girl has so much spunk and life!

Katie and I met because she needed head shots for her portfolio. This was my first time doing head shots, but Katie help put me at ease! She was so easy to get along with and photograph and was a pro at posing for the head shots. Thanks, Katie, for showing me the ropes! =)

1

After some formal shots indoors, we headed to the park to get some fun shots!

 3

Katie is so full of life and SPUNK!!!!!

2

And the parting shot from the session….

4

  …PEACE OUT! =)

Thanks, Katie, for being so fun to photograph! I look forward to seeing you again! Good luck on your next call! =)

Bubbles are the Way to a Kid’s Heart…

One thing I have learned so far in my photography business is that bubbles are the way to a kid’s heart. =)

Bubbles have a way of persuading children (those between the ages of 2 and 4) that I am super cool!!!

Meet Evan. He is every bit of 2. Just like my own 2 year old, the word of choice for the moment seems to be “no”.  I love this age. They are not sure of what else to say so they stick with what they know – no or yes. =) Bubbles were an automatic YES!

He has such sweet eyes. Don’t they make you melt?

1

Why do boys get the long lashes? Evan had thick lashes to envy.

4

I love the determination he had when blowing his bubbles.

3

Thanks, Evan,  for playing cars with me and showing me your awesome bubble-blowing skills!

This Tutu’s for You

I was so excited to use my new tutu’s on this little cutie! =)

I had posted the request for a little girl for a “tutu” session and was excited to be contacted by this little cutie’s mom.

The session turned into a “Cute Kid Contest” session as well.

We started with the tutu and let her work into her comfort zone (giraffe friend included). =) She was great and did not mind wearing the tutu at all!!

4

Before the session, I had a vision for what I wanted. Without any guidance, she helped me create what I had envisioned.

These are the 2 I saw in my head…

2a

3

…and I was able to capture exactly what I had hoped for. Thank you, baby Sophia, for being a willing (and absolutely ADORABLE!!)participant in my creativity.

Once the portraits in the tutu were captured, we moved on to the Cute Kid Contest portion of the session.

This portrait is my favorite. She just has the SWEETEST face!!!

It’s TBall Time!

My little Padre had his first practice and pseudo-game this week. He was so excited and did great. I am so glad he wasn’t shy out there.

Here he is before the 1st practice. He was so excited that he didn’t even want to sit in the dugout.

Tball2

Thursday was their chance to play a game against one of the other team’s – the A’s. It was comical. Whenever the ball was hit off the Tee, it didn’t matter what position they were playing, the entire team ran to the ball. There wasn’t a scramble to even pick up the ball, they all stood around for a bit before picking it up! =)

I can’t wait to see their first “real” game next week! =)

Our Little T-Ball Player

Other than martial arts, DJ has not wanted to play any sports. Figuring he (and mommy) would benefit from him playing sports and burning energy, mommy secretly signed him up for T-Ball. He didn’t find out until a couple of days before the first practice was scheduled that I had signed him up. =) Otherwise, he would have managed to probably talk me out of it.

Last week, practice was cancelled due to rain, but we went to go pick up his uniform.

We were VERY excited to find out that he was going to represent his birth place!

DJ is a SAN DIEGO PADRE!!!!!!!!

This was great because I had been missing San Diego A LOT lately so this truly made my day!

Princesses Can Have Fun Too!

Meet Marella! This is my DJ’s best friend at school. =)

She is such a girly girl and I LOVE it! Her favorite color isn’t pink, though, but I don’t hold it against her. =)

We went to the Vacaville Library and I was amazed at the beautiful scenery there!  They had a bridge, benches, greenery, trees, arches, and everything a photographer could dream about for an outdoor session.

2 1

Her natural smile just makes me smile, too!!!

 3

And what does a princess do when she has a nice flowy (spell check is telling me this isn’t a word – it is now LOL) dress and wind blowing her hair? YOU SPIN!

This is my favorite portrait from the session (well…this one and the one right above it!).

Double J

I was tagged team by the Double J team! =)

Since Jack and Jessica were at the park together for their individual portrait sessions, we also took portraits of them together.

You can tell by their dynamics that they are good friends. They were actually more like brother and sister. =)

Remember that image of Jessica against the tree? Jack was on the other side! =)

I absolutely adore these next 2 images…
