IDSC World Down Syndrome Day Video–Down Syndrome Awareness

When the International Down Syndrome Coalition asked me to help create the video for World Down Syndrome Day, I was excited!! The IDSC is an organization so near and dear to me and although I was scared to do the video (having no video editing experience or even knowledge of how to use the software!!), I wanted to be able to he and be a part of something to benefit the Down syndrome organization and the Down syndrome community.

Armed with Sarah Conant's beautiful voice singing the theme song, "Who I Am", photos and videos, I set out to learn the software and collaborated with the awesome women behind the IDSC, Diane Grover and Linda Nargi, and voila…the video was made!

Why am I proud of this video?

  1. It CELEBRATES the Down syndrome community and WHO these individuals are. It isn’t about their diagnosis. It isn’t a pity party. It is celebrating individuality and for the lack of a better word, “normalness”.
  2. It gives me HOPE. As a parent of a 6 year old, seeing the adults in the video and that they are working and going to college gives me so much hope for Cody. The opportunities for him are ENDLESS!
  3. It is UPBEAT and happy! The happy moments in our life (as a parent of a child with Down syndrome) far exceed the number of sad moments (like heart surgery and hospitalization) and this video is a tribute to that happiness. Parenting a child with special needs is not much different than parenting a “typical” child. It has its ups and downs, but for the most part, our lives are no different than a “typical” family. Happiness is abound in this household! Smile
  4. It is plain and simply, AWESOME! Winking smile

And with great pride, I introduce to you the IDSC’s World Down Syndrome Day Video 2013! Want them to know how much you love it? Hop on their Facebook page and let them know!

Want a DVD copy of the video for yourself? Hop over to their shop! The videos are $9.99 for one or 3 for $21. These are great to share with family, therapists, and educators to show them the awesomeness of Down syndrome! :)

The feedback and reviews we have received for the video have brought me to tears more times than I can count. It warms my heart that people are enjoying this video, crying with me and most especially, celebrating with us.
