It’s Been Awhile

I know it has been awhile since I last blogged.

Quite a bit has happened in the last couple of weeks.

I have spent the last two weeks crying.

I wish they were tears of joy, but they aren’t.

Two weeks ago, our 7 year old boxer, Scooter, started limping. That quickly progressed to falling over whenever he stood up.

After a couple days of falling over and my husband having to carry him around the house, I brought him to the vet. They took x-rays and didn’t find anything abnormal and thought it might be a pinched nerve.

The next day, he was even worse and couldn’t sit without falling over to his left. In the middle of the night I called UC Davis Emergency and they scheduled an appointment for him on Monday for neurological testing. They were the most caring individuals over the phone and even called back to check on him.

Monday my husband took Scooter in to UC Davis. After testing, I received a call that stopped me in my tracks and left me crying all day.

“They are pretty sure he has a brain tumor.” The right side of his face is “hanging” and his brain isn’t communicating with the rest of his body.

When they came home from UC Davis all I could do was hug Scooter and cry. We brought him home when he was only 8 weeks old and he was our oldest “child” together. This was heartbreaking. Especially because we knew what the outcome would be.

Unfortunately, he rapidly deteriorated and couldn’t stand or sit unassisted. He couldn’t even go from sitting to laying without help because he couldn’t control his left legs.

We had to put our feelings aside and do what was best for Scooter. You can see in his eyes just how unhappy he was. He wasn’t even wagging his stump of a tail.

On Friday, we said goodbye to our best friend, Scooter. Our household (and friends and family) were heartbroken.

My husband took this picture of Scooter before he brought him to the vet.

We miss you, Scooter. The household is not the same without you.

Michelle - My heart just aches for you and your family. So, so very hard to lose our fuzzy friends especially so suddenly. Hope you all are having more good days than bad. Also, hope you are healing up after your surgery.

I miss Scooter, so much. I so sorry you had to go through this. This post made me start crying for Scooter again. He was a wonderful dog.
